9:10 am: With the fourth world championship title for Max Verstappen, this live ticker for the Grand Prix of Las Vegas ends at this point. Formula 1 continues next weekend, then the drivers head to Qatar. Until then!
9:05 am: Meanwhile, Sergio Perez had another disappointing weekend in Las Vegas. Does he have to finally give up his place at Red Bull? You can find more information about this here.
8:50 am: Of course, McLaren leaves the weekend as a loser. Not only did they lose the World Drivers’ Championship at the end of this weekend, Ferrari’s lead in the drivers’ championship is also dwindling. Two races before the end of the season there is only a 24 point difference.
8:38 am: Nico Hülkenberg finished in a strong eighth place. The native Emmerich shows a good performance in the Haas and he can keep his team in sixth place in the constructors’ championship. But the last word has not been spoken here yet: Alpine and the Racing Bulls still have every chance of moving up to sixth in the team standings.
50/50: The checkered flag, George Russell won the Las Vegas Grand Prix. But much more important: Max Verstappen is the fourth Formula 1 world champion! a comfortable fifth place was enough for the Red Bull driver as World Championship member Lando Norris was unable to get past P6.
47/50: Charles Leclerc also overtakes Verstappen. The Dutchman is now in P4, with Lando Norris around ten seconds behind him. However, it shouldn’t be very tight anymore.
44/50: Verstappen lets Sainz pass. That’s probably not a problem for the Red Bull driver, but winning his fourth world championship title won’t change much.
40/50: Things are always looking bleak for Sergio Perez. While teammate Verstappen is heading towards his fourth world championship title, Perez is only eleventh. This probably doesn’t increase his chances of staying at Red Bull.
34/50: Meanwhile, Verstappen had to let Lewis Hamilton pass, now in P2 and currently the fastest car on the grid. Can he be a threat to fellow man Russell again?
25/50: At halftime of the Las Vegas GP there is little going on on the road. Nothing is happening at the top right now – that obviously plays into Max Verstappen’s hands. Everything has a happy ending for the Red Bull driver.
16/50: There are many signs that point to a fourth world championship for Max Verstappen; Lando Norris has to let Lewis Hamilton pass. It looks like the McLarens have no chance against Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari today.
11/50: The first drivers come into the pits to change tyres. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen flies over the track and is now in the bag of Carlos Sainz. He is now in P2.
8/50: Verstappen is now in P3, having overtaken Charles Leclerc, who is apparently struggling with his car. Lando Norris is in P5, but he was able to push past Pierre Gasly.
Round 1/50: The lights go down, the Las Vegas Grand Prix is on! George Russell does well at the top and can keep his place. Behind him, Charles Leclerc has a mega start in the Ferrari and can move up from P4 to second place. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris remain fifth and sixth.
6:37 am: There is good news for Franco Colapinto. The Williams driver can start today after his violent crash in qualifying yesterday. The Argentinian is doing well and it seems his mechanics were able to fix the car overnight.
6:55 pm: Great concerns about Franco Colapinto! It is still uncertain whether shooting star Williams will be able to take part in the Las Vegas GP. All information here.
10:24 am: Franco Colapinto had a short spell of shock with his crash in Q2. The Williams driver crashed into the barrier at high speed and had to be taken to the medical center, from where he has since been released. It is not yet certain whether Colapinto will be able to take part in tomorrow’s race.
9:16 am: For Sergio Perez, however, it was once again a session to forget. The Mexicans did not get the 16th place. This probably doesn’t exactly improve his chances of staying at Red Bull next year. Liam Lawson (P15) and Yuki Tsunoda (P7), both targeting Perez’s place, finished ahead of the 34-year-old.
9:11 am: Meanwhile, World Championship leader Max Verstappen had a mixed session. The Red Bull driver did not get fifth place in qualifying. After all: Lando Norris in pursuit of the World Championship could not take advantage of this and finished in sixth place. With the result of this race, Verstappen would be the world champion.
Saturday, November 23, 9:05 am: Good morning! George Russell takes pole position at the Las Vegas Grand Prix and starts from first place. But the big surprise of qualifying is Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman comes third in the Alps, confirming his strong form - he finished third in the last race in Brazil.
10:29 pm: The third free practice session will take place at 3:30 am A few hours later at 7 am the qualifying takes place. Who will take pole position?
10:09 am: Mega-vortex in Formula 1! According to media reports, eleven teams are imminent. All information here.
7:22 pm: Ahead of the race weekend in Las Vegas, the FIA took drastic action. A rule change created a lot of excitement among the teams. The Formula 1 teams must respond.
6:15 pm: The first grid penalty has already been given. Bottas has to start the race five places further back because he has already installed a fourth battery in his Sauber - two are allowed per season.
5:29 pm: Problems for Verstappen in training: The first two training sessions did not go so well for Verstappen. Hamilton set the fastest time ahead of Russell and Norris. Verstappen was only 17th in the second practice session due to grip problems.
4:52 pm: Verstappen is likely to become Formula 1 world champion for the fourth time in a row in Las Vegas. And this is how it would go:
- If Verstappen finishes the race ahead of Norris
- If both drivers finish the race without points
- If Norris doesn’t finish at least eighth
4:22 pm: All eyes on Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. The lead over the remaining three races plus a sprint in Qatar is 62 points. Norris can score a maximum of 86 points. In theory, the Brit can still catch up with Verstappen. But it would take a small miracle for him to succeed.
