Daegu, ranked 11th in K League 1, lost the final game
From the 28th, Chungnam Asan and Seunggang PO
Seoul E-Land of professional soccer K-League 2 (second division) advanced to the promotion playoffs (PO) for the first time in 10 years since its founding. E-Land’s promotion PO opponent is Jeonbuk, ranked 10th in the K League 1 (1st division). The two teams will play the first round of the promotion PO on December 1st and the second round on the 8th. E-Land is fighting hard to advance to the first division for the first time since its founding, and Jeonbuk is fighting hard to avoid its first relegation to the second division since its founding.
E-Land, ranked 3rd in the regular league this season, drew 2-2 in the 2nd division PO single match against 4th place Jeonnam held at Mokdong Sports Complex on the 24th. In the 2nd division PO, if the 90-minute match in the first half ends in a draw, the top team in the regular league is eligible to participate in the promotion PO. On this day, E-Land conceded consecutive goals in the 3rd and 30th minutes of the second half, and it seemed like their chances of advancing to the promotion promotion this year were over.
However, E-Land dramatically drew in the second half when substitutes Kim Shin-jin (23) and Baek Ji-woong (20) scored consecutive goals in three minutes. Kim Shin-jin scored a chasing goal in the 32nd minute of the second half, and Baek Ji-woong scored a tying goal in the 35th minute of the second half. Kim Shin-jin, who played for Seoul in the first division, was loaned to E-Land on July 30th, midway through the season. Rookie Baek Ji-woong led the team to the promotion spot with his first goal since his professional debut. E-Land, founded in 2014, has participated in the second division since 2015, and this year’s 3rd place in the regular league is its best result since its founding. Kim Shin-jin said about Jeonbuk’s promotion PO, “We are in a challenging position. “I will not be discouraged and will fight like a fighting cock,” he said.
Jeonbuk finished the regular round in 10th place in the first division after drawing 1-1 in the final game of the season against Gwangju on this day. Daegu, ranked 11th in the 1st division, will play a promotion/relegation match against Chungnam Asan, the 2nd place team in the 2nd division. The first game between the two teams will be held on the 28th, and the second game will be held on December 1st. Daegu lost 1-3 to Incheon in the final game of the regular round on the 24th. Incheon was confirmed to be ranked last (12th) on the 10th and was directly relegated to the second division next season.

How does the pressure of relegation affect a team’s performance in critical matches like those in the K League playoff?
Interview: Time.news Editor and Soccer Expert on K-League Developments
Time.news Editor: Welcome, and thank you for joining us today! As we dive into the latest developments in the K League, it’s fascinating to see the stakes get so high at both ends of the table. Let’s start with E-Land’s remarkable journey this season. For the first time in a decade, they’ve reached the promotion playoffs. Can you tell us what this means for the team and its fans?
Soccer Expert: Absolutely! E-Land’s advancement to the playoff rounds is a significant milestone, not just for the club itself but for its supporters as well. Founded in 2014, the club had been participating in the second division since 2015. Their third-place finish this year represents their best performance yet, and reaching the promotion playoffs symbolizes growth and determination. Fans are now filled with hope and excitement as they aim for a spot in the first division.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like a thrilling moment for both the club and its supporters! In the promotion playoff, E-Land faces Jeonbuk, who are battling to avoid relegation for the first time in their history. How do you see this dynamic affecting the matchup?
Soccer Expert: That creates a very intriguing scenario! On one hand, E-Land has everything to gain—complete momentum and a surge of confidence after their dramatic comeback against Jeonnam. On the other hand, Jeonbuk is under immense pressure to maintain their top-tier status. That pressure can be a double-edged sword; it can either galvanize their performance or lead to mistakes under pressure.
Time.news Editor: Indeed, pressure often plays a critical role in such matches. Speaking of pressure, E-Land showed incredible resilience coming back in their last game. Can you give us insight into the key players who made that comeback possible?
Soccer Expert: Certainly! The substitutes, Kim Shin-jin and Baek Ji-woong, were pivotal. Kim’s prior experience in the first division and his recent loan to E-Land brought a fresh perspective. His chase-down goal ignited the team’s spirit, while Baek Ji-woong, as a rookie, emerged as a hero with the equalizing goal less than three minutes later. Their performances highlight the depth and potential within the team, which will be crucial in the upcoming playoff matches.
Time.news Editor: On the other side of the table, we have Daegu facing a promotion/relegation match after finishing 11th in the first division. After a disappointing last game against Incheon, how likely do you think they are to bounce back against Chungnam Asan?
Soccer Expert: Daegu is certainly in a tough position. Losing to Incheon must have stung, especially since Incheon had already solidified their relegation. However, the very nature of promotion/relegation matches can change everything. It’s a one-off event where form doesn’t always hold up. Daegu has the experience and knows what’s at stake, so they will need to regroup quickly and come out with all guns blazing against Chungnam Asan.
Time.news Editor: Great points! It’s clear that emotions will run high for both teams in their respective matches. With December 1st approaching, how do you foresee the overall impact of these games on the clubs and their futures?
Soccer Expert: The outcomes of these matches could define a new era for both E-Land and Jeonbuk, as well as for Daegu and Chungnam Asan. For E-Land, promotion would elevate the club into the first division, while for Jeonbuk, retaining their position is crucial to maintain their legacy. Daegu needs to avoid falling further down the ladder, and a win against Chungnam could help them rebuild. The ramifications for the clubs extend beyond just the immediate matches; they can influence recruitment, fan engagement, and overall financial standing.
Time.news Editor: It’s certainly a pivotal moment for the K League! Thank you for sharing your insights today. Before we close, any final thoughts on what fans should look out for in these upcoming games?
Soccer Expert: Fans should keep an eye on the emotional narratives at play—egos, legacies, and the hunger for success. Those elements often lead to unpredictable and thrilling football. Plus, the individual performances of key players will be essential in determining the outcomes. It should be an exciting few weeks!
Time.news Editor: Thank you so much for your analysis! We look forward to seeing how these stories unfold on the pitch.
