A 38-year-old resident of one of the villages in the Western Galilee, he almost died as a result of dental treatment. The same man performed dental implants in his mouth in one of the localities in the Palestinian Authority, which created a serious infection in his mouth and neck. Luckily, he managed to get treatment at the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, where his life was saved at the last minute.
The unusual incident occurred earlier this week, when the patient arrived at the Galilee Medical Center with a complaint of noticeable swelling in his face accompanied by severe pain in the face and lower jaw area. After undergoing a quick questioning, it turned out that he underwent uncontrolled dental treatment that led to the dangerous condition.
In the emergency room, the patient was examined by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, who was diagnosed with a severe multi-systemic infection.
Thanks to the resourcefulness of the doctors, Dr. Daniel Oren and Dr. Amir Tutari, who identified the distress and acted quickly, the 38-year-old’s life was saved. After providing him with air to breathe the patient was taken to the operating room, where he underwent drainage of the contaminated cavities and at the end of the medical procedure and from there was transferred to the intensive care unit in a difficult but stable condition, anesthetized and respirated.

The director of the Center for Facial, Maxillofacial, Oral and Dental Surgery, Prof. Summer Seroji: “Thanks to the resourcefulness of the medical staff, the patient’s life was saved in the 90th minute. The deterioration was very rapid as a result of the infection he suffered from. In a non-sterile and non-professional setting, they can be life-threatening and even death, regardless of where the medical treatment is given. “
The director of the medical center, Prof. Masad Barhoum, praised the medical staff for their professional and prompt work, emphasizing that it is very important to make sure that you only reach places and medical institutions that are licensed and approved by the Ministry of Health.
