His initial response, however, was one of mistrust. She gave the businessman a “suspicious look” and asked who the woman was. He replied: “Don’t judge by appearances. You’ll love her. She’s a great country singer. Her name is Dolly Parton.”
The businessman was right, and the two ended up being friends. “He was right, and she is still my friend to this day.”writes Cher. Months later, the singer invited Dolly to take part in a special program ABCwhere she played the personification of “good” in contrast to “evil”, represented by the band The Tubes.
In addition to the story with Dolly, there are other moments in Cher’s autobiography. One of them is his account of Tina Turnerwho asked the artist for advice on how to leave an abusive relationship. Cher remembers that, during the recording of it The Sonny & Cher ShowTina asked for help covering a bruise on her arm and then questioned how Cher managed to get separated Sonny Bono. “I got out and kept walking.”he replied.
She also looks at Ike Turner’s behavior during recording: “He didn’t smile once and he played the guitar without emotion.”Dear conclusion: “I just knew what it was to feel good.”
