The Karnataka High Court has filed a case on behalf of students against the ban on wearing hijab in Karnataka colleges. The case was heard by a bench of Karnataka High Court comprising Chief Justice Rithuraj Awasthi, Justices Krishna Dixit and JM Ghazi.

Following this, the ban imposed by the Karnataka government will go through the tribunal. Muslim students in Yadgir boycotted the exam in protest of the verdict.

Muslim groups closed shop in Bhatkal in Uttar Kannada district. In this context, the Federation of Karnataka Muslim Organizations said, “The ruling of the Karnataka High Court that the hijab is not an essential practice cannot be accepted. Schools and colleges today announced a full blockade in Karnataka demanding that students be allowed to wear the hijab and quash the verdict.

This was followed by a full blockade today of Islamist-occupied areas across the state. Shops and businesses are not open in the area. The normal life of the people was affected due to the complete blockade today especially in most parts of Udupi district. The district administration has banned protests in the area. Islamic students boycotted school and college.

The ball has the backing of various organizations including STBI and CPI. In many areas, Muslims have closed their shops in protest. Shops were closed from this morning in some parts of the state, including Bangalore, Dakshina Kannada district Mangalore, Darwar district Uppalli and Uttar Kannada district Bhatkal.

As many as 144 restraining orders are in force in Bangalore till March 21 and marches and protests are not allowed there. It is said that people in other parts of the state are likely to gather and march and protest. Heavy police security has been put in place across the state due to the bandh. Karnataka Reserve Force Police and District Armed Police are concentrated in key locations.

Meanwhile, Muslim students have filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Karnataka High Court order in the hijab case. The apex court, which refused to hear the petition as a matter of urgency, said it would hold the hearing after the Holi holiday.

In an interview to reporters in Bangalore, Commissioner of Police Kamalbandh said: –

Muslim organizations had called for a full blockade due to the hijab issue. Necessary precautionary measures and police security arrangements were made in Bangalore to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents during the entire blockade.

The day before yesterday (yesterday) peace talks were held in Bangalore with the leaders and executives of Muslim organizations. They also said they would extend full cooperation to the police. Accordingly, the entire blockade struggle in Bangalore took place peacefully.

Already 144 restraining orders have been issued across the city of Bangalore. Due to this, even a small accident did not take place. Muslim organizations also cooperated fully with the police. Bangalore Shivajinagar, Fraser Town, Majestic, Commercial Street, Tannery Road, Pump Bazaar, areas around the city market were closed due to complete blockade in only a few areas. Merchants also voluntarily closed shops on the Way.

Additional police were deployed in the DJ Halli area. There were the police marching in the morning. There was no disturbance to the public as heavy police security arrangements were made for the entire blockade in Bangalore.
