The national artist will celebrate 30 years of experience in 2025 and recently released a new album. To commemorate both milestones, on December 4 it will be presented at the Nescafé de las Artes Theater.
The national singer-songwriter Magdalena Matthey released his new album “Instinct“a collection of songs that he defines as personal and daring. The album opens with “Cry”a song that features the collaboration of the renowned Mexican artist Natalia Lafourcade. this is not the only special participation on the album, since it also includes the chilean singer-songwriter Near Barahona.
To celebrate the release of the album and its 30 years of history, Magdalena Matthey will be presented on Wednesday, December 4 at 8:00 p.m. with a long-duration concert at the Nescafé Theater of the Arts.
Regarding this show, the artist reveals that she will be accompanied by six musicians, as well as a string quartet and special guests. There will also be visuals that will illustrate the concept of the album and its various themes. Among the guests will be Tilo Gonzalezfounder of Congressy Simon GonzalezChilean guitarist residing in Belgium. Meanwhile, the role of Natalia Lafourcade will be taken by Evelyn Cornejo on stage.
Regarding his new album, Magdalena Matthey ensures that collaborations are always rewarding. About his work with Natalia Lafourcadeexplains: “Sometimes, when songs are born, you feel that someone is missing to complement them. In the case of ’Llorar’, while I was creating it, as it had a cadence with a Mexican air, I promptly thought of Natalia.”
“A few days later I sought contact through a sister that Natalia has here and I knew that she had heard the song.So I thought, ‘Well, the stars are aligning, I’m going to ask.’ I contacted her at a good time as, later, her schedule became super intricate, with many things. However, the possibility opened up, and I think it was because she also connected with the song, with that universe, with what she was expressing.”
The artists worked remotely. They had a virtual meeting, where Magdalena He made the whole proposal. The Mexican sent the recording and, after some editing, she returned it so that the artist finally gave her approval. “She was super happy too. “I felt that connection.”says the singer who won the folkloric category of the Viña del Mar Festival in 1995.
About the inspiration of “Instinct”, Matthew points out: “In Chile there is a state of hopelessness in certain aspects, a need to regain strength. The animal world comes to calm a little, to offer containment, as happens when observing the flight of birds, the daily life of a cat or the protection of a tiger. Animal instinct shows that even fragility can be an act of survival. “You react by defending yourself as you are in a fragile state.”
Regarding the projects that come after the Nescafé Theater of the Artscomments that he has not thought about them yet: “That part of self-management has been super arduous for me. I feel like I’m rowing against the current quite a bit. So, of course, for me a theater in Nescafé is a milestone. it’s like the end of a process. And I say, well, I’ll see later. But I don’t have the capacity today, working so alone, to project myself with a tour.”
Regarding the current moment in the industry, the singer-songwriter says that there is a great need to communicate in different musical genres, but there is a very limited industry.“That means that there are suddenly frustrations, artists who, no matter how hard they try, can’t find the space.now, I also believe that not everyone has and does not have to occupy the big stages,” says Matthey.
In addition to the launch on digital platforms,Magdalena Matthey released a lyric video for his song “Walking walking”which includes paintings by the prominent national artist Fernando Allende.
“I thought of him because the song seemed to enter his landscape. His paintings are full of life, color and optimism. He recounts the streets and bohemian life with a playful reality full of details to discover. “I liked expanding the collaborative spirit of this album towards its art,” he details. Matthew.
