the season of gourmet food, fall. The season of spicy food that whets the appetite of Koreans has returned.
Everything about the ‘spicy taste’ loved by Koreans! A spicy and delicious gastronomic journey begins.
An autumn day approaching late autumn. Autumn has already fallen on Odaesan Mountain, one of Gangwon-do’s famous mountains.
Dario, a chef from germany, visited Odaesan Mountain, beautifully colored with autumn leaves, to experience the ‘red taste’ that can only be felt at this time of year! we arrived at Woljeongsa Temple, a thousand-year-old temple known as the gateway to Odaesan Mountain, along the colorful autumn foliage road. Coincidentally, today is the day to make kimchi in preparation for winter. Dario also raised his arms and joined in making kimchi.
The first place we followed Monk Jiwon to was a highland radish field located at the foot of Odaesan Mountain. For a stranger with no experience in farming, picking a thousand radishes is the most difficult of all.
Although the amount has been reduced by half compared to previous years, temple kimchi is the biggest event in which all monks and believers are mobilized. Woljeongsa’s kimchi is said to have a spicy and refreshing taste even without the use of salted fish, garlic, and green onions. What is the secret to that taste?
Dario said there is someone he would like to share the red taste of Odaesan Mountain with. I set out to meet the monk with whom I had a special relationship.
Danimgol is considered one of the remotest areas in Jeongseon,Gangwon-do. The main character is an Ilgye monk who has been practicing alone in a mountain hermitage for nine years.
A monk who cooks Gangwon-do’s local food, ‘Jangkalguksu’, to thank the people who came from a long distance. Dario makes German-style potato pancakes for such a monk.
A delicious meal shared with a grateful person. Would you like to try the red taste of Odaesan Mountain?
