‘Boxing star’ Oh Yeon-ji challenges too win against Brazil
The Korean boxing team secured three silver medals at the 2024 World Boxing Cup Finals.
The korean Boxing Association announced on the 30th, “Three athletes have advanced to the finals of the World Boxing Cup Finals, which has been held at the English Institute of sports in Sheffield, england as the 27th.”
The athletes who advanced to the finals are Oh yeon-ji (Ulsan Metropolitan City Sports Council) in the women’s under-60kg class, Seong Su-yeon (Wonju City Hall) in the women’s under-75kg class, and Jeong Ha-neul (Korea National Sport university) in the men’s under-92kg class.
Oh Yeon-ji will clash with Brazilian Rebecca Santos in the finals.
Yeonji Oh, the ‘Korean boxing star’, won the first Korean women’s boxing gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, and won two bronze medals at the Women’s World Championships.
Sadly, he did not win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics last July, but he will advance to the finals at the World Boxing Cup Finals and challenge the world’s best.
Seong Soo-yeon will face Brazil’s Bibiani Ferreira, and Jeong Ha-neul will face England’s Land’s Isaac Oko.
Choi Chan-woong, President of the Korea Boxing Association, said, “The performance that the Korean athletes showed in this competition is the result of thier efforts and systematic training.” He added, “The athletes who advanced to the finals achieved good results in their matches against world-class athletes, further enhancing the status of Korean boxing.” “We expect it to increase,” he said.
