Bangalore: The state government has banned the wearing of hijab in educational institutions in Karnataka. The Karnataka High Court has ruled that the state order will go through in the case filed by the students against this. Muslim students have boycotted the exams in protest.

In this context, the Federation of Muslim Organizations, which condemns and seeks permission for the hijab ban, called for a full blockade in Karnataka yesterday. This was supported by organizations including STBI and CPI.

In Bangalore, Muslim traders in Shivajinagar, Tannery Road and KR Market areas closed their shops from 6 am to 6 pm yesterday in protest. Similarly, shops were closed in some places including Mangalore, Bhatkal and Hubli.

Because of this struggle Karnataka Heavy police security was put in place throughout.
