Chinese YouTuber Li Tzu-chi uploads a YouTube video for the first time in 3 and a half years
Introduction to traditional and rural culture, such as painting furniture and spinning silk thread
A popular Chinese YouTuber famous for videos on rural life has resumed his activities after three and a half years. This YouTuber gained great popularity by showing himself cooking the crops he harvested in a traditional way, but he was also at the center of the controversy over the so-called ’kimchi process’ in Korea.
Chinese YouTuber Li Ziqi posted three videos on her YouTube channel from the 12th to the 13th of last month. It has been about three and a half years as the last video was uploaded in July 2021 and activities were suspended.
the three recently uploaded videos also feature traditional Chinese culture and the lifestyle of rural areas. The exhibits included collecting lacquer from nature to make paint and painting furniture, building a hut with trees cut down from the forest, and pulling thread from silkworm cocoons and making cloth using traditional methods.
Li Ziqi is the person who started the ‘retro video’ craze in China by introducing daily life in rural areas since 2015. It was a huge success as it evoked nostalgia for traditional things in China, where rural areas were disappearing due to urbanization.
The sight of a young woman living a life with minimal intrusion from modern civilization, such as harvesting from the field or making food in a traditional way using ingredients collected from nature, caused a great stir.
In 2017,he started working on YouTube and became a celebrity in many countries. In 2020, it set a Guinness record as the Chinese-language YouTube channel with the most subscribers. The current number of subscribers reaches 20.7 million.
However, there was also public outrage in the country. Ritz-chi used the hashtag ‘Chinese Food’ (#ChineseFood) when posting a video of making kimchi in 2021. There was a barrage of criticism from Korean viewers questioning weather it was part of the Chinese Communist Party’s ’Kimchi Process’.
This YouTuber suddenly stopped uploading videos on YouTube in July 2021. It was reported that it was due to a legal dispute with the agency. He announced his intention to resume his activities in an interview with local media in September last year, but he did not upload any videos after that and only recently returned to YouTube. All three videos uploaded after his return have received a lot of attention, with more than 10 million views.
