Hundreds of Jerusalem District police officers, volunteers and border guards from the various police units, worked in the last day as part of the Purim holiday in the city of Jerusalem while maintaining security missions, maintaining public order, directing traffic and more for the safety and well-being of Jerusalem residents and visitors. The commander of the Jerusalem district, Superintendent Doron Turgeman, tonight, together with the district command staff, conducted a tour between the police forces and the Border Police, while closely monitoring their preparations, talking to them and clarifying the importance of their mission.
During the activity of the traffic police of the Jerusalem district near the concentration of crowds, more than 600 drivers were performed and tested before sitting in the driver’s seat in order to prevent them from driving under the influence of alcohol. Alongside this, enforcement was conducted during which 8 drivers under the influence of alcohol were located and against them a traffic procedure was initiated accordingly. In addition, during the activity of the Border Police in Mateh Yehuda, a nature party was located in Britain Park. The police stopped the party and a minor (15) was evacuated to medical care after she did not feel well.
Against the background of the holiday events, the Jerusalem District Police has in recent days conducted covert and overt activities, along with increased enforcement activities in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, to prevent the marketing and distribution of dangerous toys and drugs destined to fall into the hands of celebrants. Enforcement activities were also conducted in businesses subject to licensing, with an emphasis on activities to prevent the sale of alcohol and dangerous toys to minors.
During the activities of the Oz station in recent days, a minor was found in possession of a large amount of explosives. During a search of another minor’s home, a large amount of explosives was also seized there and these were seized by the police. Last night, the youth inspectors at the Oz station caught a suspicious “al-Ham” (16) firing a fireworks display in the Har Homa neighborhood from a bus set up directly at the police officers who were operating at the scene. As a result, one of the officers was injured in the eye (did not need medical attention). Following the firing of the fireworks, the bus was damaged and the suspect who tried to escape immediately after the act was caught and taken for questioning at the police station.
In an activity carried out in recent days by a crime fighting unit in the Merhav Zion area, a cannabis drug and dozens of ecstasy pills were purchased, which were arrested immediately afterwards and transferred to an investigation in which it was suspected that these drugs were intended for Purim parties in Jerusalem and the surrounding area. Following a network monitoring activity, a suspected resident of Anata (MP Shuafat) in his 40s was located and arrested by a law enforcement station after he issued threats and incitement in preparation for Purim. The suspect was taken for questioning in the central unit of the Jerusalem district and his detention was extended in court for several days.
Jerusalem District Police and Border Police fighters will continue with the increased preparation during the day (Friday) in places where Purim events will take place in the city, with a wide deployment in security and order circles, directing traffic and keeping the celebrants safe.
The police said: “We call on the public again, to be vigilant and report any unusual incident to the 100 police hotline. It is also possible to be constantly updated on relevant information and changes in traffic arrangements, through the National Police Information Center, which is numbered 110 ”.
