The actor and politician sent a message to the Russian population to convince them to take sides against the conflict in Ukraine
From Arnold Schwarzenegger comes a direct video message to Russia. In particular, the words of the actor and former Republican governor of California are addressed to ordinary Russian citizens, those directly or indirectly involved by Putin in the invasion of Ukraine. Schwarzenegger’s stance is clearly opposed to armed confrontation and his intervention aims to get as many Russians as possible to understand why: I know your government has told you that this war was launched to denazify Ukraine. Denazify Ukraine? Not true! a country with a Jewish president, whose father’s three brothers were killed by the Nazis. You see, Ukraine did not start this war. Neither were nationalists or Nazis. Those in power in the Kremlin started this war. This is not the war of the Russian people.
Russia is now blatantly undergoing the measures of sanction and isolation from the international community, but Putin’s strategy does not seem to be affected by such measures. Those who suffer the consequences of the conflict most painfully are, as always, the citizens. Those who tried to protest were quickly silenced by force, while in the field thousands of Russian soldiers have already died from a war other than theirs, as claimed by Schwarzenegger in the video posted on his social channels. The appeal therefore to awareness and to take sides against the invasion: “Remember, 11 million Russian families have ties to Ukraine: every bullet hits a brother or sister.”
