“Don Camillo” a 1952 film, but its literary genesis. Behind the story of the affectionate rivalry between the parish priest and the communist Peppone there is in fact the “Piccolo Mondo: Don Camillo” by Giovannino Guareschi. The text originally came out in the form of a short story collection between 1946 and 1947, but only the following year was it published as a novel.
