His Majesty the King has decided to promote the geographical location of Morocco, a hinge between Africa and Europe, through extraordinary structuring infrastructure projects, writes the Italian think Tank in an analysis published on its site.
The objective being to guarantee internal growth as a factor of development and social stability and, on a geopolitical level, to make the Kingdom an energy and industrial hub and a privileged gateway to Africa for world trade and also ‘a leading player in the security field, notes the Center.
In his speech on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Green March, the Sovereign announced that Morocco is willing to put its network of road, rail and port infrastructure at the service of the countries of the Sahel to guarantee them access to Atlantic, recalls CeSI, specifying that several African countries joined this initiative and over the following months, various meetings at ministerial level laid the foundations and defined the contours of the concrete implementation of this enterprising royal initiative.
While facilitating the participation of these states in international trade, Morocco builds relationships of trust by establishing itself as “a reliable political interlocutor and economic partner,” notes the Center for International Studies.
On the economic level, Morocco has made enormous progress at all levels, particularly in the areas of industry, automobiles, energy, tourism, agriculture, the labour market, infrastructure and innovation, all sectors which should also benefit other African economies.
“To understand the extent of the modernization efforts implemented by Morocco, it is enough to cite tanger Med, where the largest port complex on the African continent is located today (…) and the first infrastructure in the Mediterranean in terms of size and volume of goods”, the Center wishes to clarify.
The Tanger Med port is included in the ranking of the ten most important maritime ports in the world and serves, among others, thirty-five ports in more than twenty African countries, particularly along the Atlantic coast.
The Italian Center for International Studies also focused on the nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project to connect the rich deposits of the Niger River delta to all the countries of West Africa up to Tangier and, in viewpoint , to Europe via Spain.
Simultaneously occurring, the Kingdom is consolidating its cooperation with its European partners, notes CeSI, stressing that today’s Morocco is persistent to make its voice heard in international forums in favor of Africa.
