The toilet operator Sanifair is increasing the prices for its systems in train stations in some cities. Travelers will soon have to pay 1.50 euros to go ⁢to town. The subsidiary of the tank and rest group last⁣ raised the fees from 70 cents to one euro for its systems in November 2022 – but not in train stations. The company operates 550 toilet⁢ facilities across Europe.

“To ensure the long-term quality of Sanifair, this fee adjustment has become necessary,” the company says. This is the first wage increase at ‍train stations as 2009. Since then, operating and material ‍costs such as wages, ⁣water, electricity and materials have⁤ risen sharply. The increase will‌ be implemented at those train⁤ stations that ‍are open around the clock. These are particularly cost-intensive, the ‌“Kreiszeitung” quotes‍ from ‌a company statement. However, the voucher ⁤of 50 ‌cents ‍will still be available. And children under six don’t have to pay anything. ⁣The use of the disabled-accessible toilets should continue to be free.

If you want ‌to save money, you have to look ⁢for a restaurant near ⁤the train⁤ station, for example, or use other public toilets that can be used free of charge.

According to the report in the “Kreiszeitung”, the operator “rail&fresh” has also increased the fees for toilets⁣ to 1.50 euros in‍ Cologne and Essen as well as in Munich. This is⁤ the first increase in ‌15 years, a ⁣spokeswoman for the⁤ company⁣ Sanikonzept is quoted as saying.
