How to Text Chat in Fortnite

There⁢ are three ways to text chat in fortnite – in a Party ​Channel,Game Channel or in a Direct​ Message.Here’s how ⁢it works:

  • Party ⁢Channel:⁢ When you ​join a ‍party, you‍ will automatically‌ be connected to a Party ‍Channel and can chat‌ with‌ all of ⁢your ⁢party members across any Fortnite island you’re playing. Party channel⁤ chat persists for as long as you’re in Fortnite ⁤and in that party.

  • Game Channel: When you join an island that supports Game Channel text chat,​ you’re⁤ in⁤ a public conversation with other players who are⁣ on ⁣the same instance of ⁤the‍ island, nonetheless of their location on the island. Game Channel chat persists for provided that you’re on the⁢ island. It will be up⁢ to creators‌ to decide whether they support Game Channels in their ⁤islands, and‍ whether the channel includes all players on the island or just teams.

  • Direct Messages (DMs): You can ‍send one-on-one ⁢messages to other players on your friends list. To DM friends, you can hit the ⁤”+” button⁢ when text chat is open, or ⁣you can⁤ click the ‘DM’ button from your friend’s profile. ⁢Direct Messages persist for⁤ provided ⁤that you’re‍ in Fortnite. Note:⁢ you can only send or receive ⁤DMs ‍from players on your Fortnite or platform friends list who are online.

Onc you’ve opened text chat, you can quickly toggle ⁤between⁢ your Party Channel, Game‌ Channel, and DM channels.If you close‌ text chat to focus on gameplay, you’ll still be able to preview ⁢incoming text chat messages.

We are introducing​ a new ‘Personal Data’ text chat ‌filter that helps remove certain‍ types​ of information — like email addresses and‍ credit card numbers ⁢— from text chat conversations in real-time. We’ve‌ also⁤ introduced improvements to‌ the mature language ⁤filter to better filter out various kinds of mature language and toxicity.Both filters will ​always be ⁢on for players under 13 in all ‍text chats ⁣and always on for all players in Game Channels.

We’re also expanding player reporting in Fortnite to include text reporting.
