In the 2nd Agriculture Budget submitted by the Government of Tamil Nadu, a large amount of subsidy has been provided for the irrigation sector which is the lifeblood of agriculture and the pump set for it.
Minister of Agriculture MRK Panneer Selvam presented the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget and spoke:
Chief Solar Pumpset
The scheme was introduced to enable farmers without electricity to avail irrigation facilities using solar powered motors. The scheme can use stand-alone motors up to a maximum of 10 hp. Rs 65.34 crore has been allotted with the assistance of the Central Government to provide 3,000 pump sets of 10 HP capacity at 70% subsidy.
Repair
Farmers’ agricultural machinery and solar pump sets are to be repaired and maintained on their premises without delay. Farmers are to be assisted by graduates in agricultural engineering, or young people with engineering degrees. With an investment of Rs 8 lakh each, 25 agricultural machinery and solar pump set repair and maintenance centers will be set up with 50 per cent subsidy with the assistance of the Central Government at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore.
Electric motor pump sets on subsidy
Farmers who own up to 5 acres of land are to be given a subsidy to buy new electric motor pump sets and replace old motors with less efficient ones and 5,000 farmers. A subsidy of Rs 10,000 per electric motor will be provided for this purpose
Automatic pump sets running through cell phone
Subsidies will be provided for remotely operated pump sets to control the pump sets installed in the well to prevent accidents and snakebite casualties when farmers go to the fields for irrigation at night. For this 50 per cent maximum subsidy of Rs. 5,000 will be given to 3,000 farmers in all districts. Rs 1.01 crore will be allocated for this with the help of the Central Government.
Farm ponds
In 2022-23, 373 farm ponds are to be set up for agriculture at 100 per cent subsidy of Rs. 3.73 crore. Farmers will be assisted to grow fruit trees and saplings to earn extra income and in collaboration with the Fisheries Department, assistance will be sought to grow fish in the farm pond.
Solar roof grain dryers
Solar drying machines for grains, oilseeds, etc. are to be provided under the subsidy. Farmers can take advantage of this solar dryer drying and selling when the good price comes, without selling at a low price during the good harvest season. 140 solar roof dryers are to be set up next year at a 40% subsidy. For this, Rs 3 crore will be implemented in the budget with the funds of the Central Government.
