The European Film Academy awarded French director Jacques Audiard for best director and best screenplay. Director Audiard (72) was awarded in Lucerne for his musical comedy “Emilia Pérez”, about a Mexican cartel boss who has his sex changed to a woman. “Emilia Pérez” is a mix of diffrent genres and styles.
The cast includes pop star Selena Gomez. In the “European Director” category, Audiard beat, among others, Pedro Almodóvar (“The Next Room”) and Mohammad Rasoulof (“The Seed of the Sacred Fig Tree”). (dpa)
