Prepare to be transported to the world of Tennessee Williams as L.A. Theater Works unveils a captivating audio collection of his iconic plays.The journey begins on December 10th with the poignant “The Glass Menagerie,” a semi-autobiographical masterpiece that launched Williams’ remarkable career.
This audio production, a collaboration with NPR affiliate KCRW 89.9 FM and the BBC, reunites the acclaimed cast of the Roundabout Theatre’s revival: the legendary Julie Harris, Calista Flockhart (making her Broadway debut), Kevin Kilner and Zeljko Ivanek. The production is brought to life with John Goodman as the narrator.
Set against the backdrop of 1935 St.Louis, “The Glass Menagerie” delves into the lives of the Wingfield family, confined to a small apartment and grappling with shattered dreams and the haunting weight of memory.
- “A Streetcar Named Desire”, a pulitzer prize-winning masterpiece starring Glennne Headly, Vincent D’Onofrio, Amy brenneman, and David Selby. This powerful drama examines the tumultuous arrival of Blanche DuBois, a faded Southern belle, into the New Orleans home of her sister and brutish brother-in-law.
- “The Rose Tattoo,” brought to life by a star-studded cast including mercedes Ruehl and Anthony LaPaglia, who reprise their Tony award-winning roles from the 1995 Broadway revival. Recorded live at the Skirball Cultural Center, this passionate play tells the story of a grieving Italian-American widow.
- “Summer and Smoke,” a poignant exploration of love, longing, and heartbreak. This production, also recorded live at the Skirball, stars Ann gee Byrd, Kristen Frazier, Mark Kudisch and more.
