– It is an incredibly tough day,an emotional day.It has been 4.5 fantastic years at Brann. A club and team that has given me so much. A connection has been created between the team and the city, says Horneland at a press conference.
– I need to try something new and challenge myself at a new level, find new inspiration to take perhaps the best years of my life. It is demanding to work here, says Horneland.
Horneland reveals that he was actually close to leaving Brann already this summer for a job abroad.
Eventually, Horneland became noticeably emotional and had to shed tears at the press conference. He calls the time at Brann and the passion surrounding the club fantastic.
– It has been a pleasure to be part of Brann and Bergen. Memories have been created here for me, which I will carry with me for the rest of my life, says Horneland.
– I have received everything I have wanted at Brann.
It was Bergens Tidende that first confirmed the departure. Soon after, brann confirmed on their website that Horneland has resigned.
– We have worked tirelessly to get him to stay. Now it has unfortunately ended up with Horneland leaving us.It’s disappointing for us; he is a fantastic person and an excellent coach, says Per Ove Ludvigsen, sporting leader at Brann.
Horneland indicated earlier this fall that he might leave Brann. On Sunday he made the decision.
– I think it’s sad. It is a man who has given us in this city a lot of joy. It is a dark morning. It is a heavy pill to swallow, says Anders pamer, commentator at Bergens Tidende, on the newspaper’s broadcast after Horneland’s departure.
– It has been one long upward trend under Horneland, Pamer asserts.
– Crisis. Because I feel that Brann was on its way to something great, but now it takes many steps back, no matter who comes in, says Renate Blindheim, expert at bergens Tidende.
Horneland came to brann as assistant coach for Kåre Ingebrigtsen in october 2020. In July 2021, he became the head coach. That year Brann was relegated.
Since then, it has been profitable years for the red shirts with cup gold in 2023 and league silver behind Bodø/Glimt both in 2023 and 2024.
The silver allows Brann to qualify for the Champions League next season, but now they need to search for a new coach.
Horneland has previously coached Norway’s U18 national team, Haugesund, and Rosenborg.
P.S! On Sunday, it became clear that Erling Moe is done as Molde’s coach.

Interview Between Time.news Editor and Football Expert: Analyzing Eirik Horneland’s Departure from Brann
Editor: Welcome to Time.news, everyone! Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with renowned football expert, Dr. Lars svensson, to discuss the recent departure of Eirik Horneland from Brann. Lars, thank you for joining us.
Dr. Svensson: Thank you for having me. It’s a pleasure to be here.
Editor: eirik Horneland has recently announced his decision to leave Brann after a triumphant tenure marked by two consecutive silver medals. He described the farewell as emotional. What do you think made this departure particularly poignant?
Dr. Svensson: Horneland’s emotional farewell speaks volumes about the bond he forged with both the team and the fans during his 4.5 years at Brann. Emotions run deep in football, and it’s clear he developed a strong connection to the club and the city itself. his achievements, especially those silver medals, have undoubtedly created lasting memories for him and the supporters.
Editor: It sounds like a important chapter in both his career and Brann’s history. Horneland mentioned needing to “try somthing new and challenge himself at a new level.” What do you think drove him to make this decision now?
Dr. Svensson: After achieving notable success, many coaches feel the need to seek fresh challenges. In this case, Horneland hinted that he was close to leaving for a job abroad earlier in the summer. The desire for personal and professional growth is common in sports; as coaches experience the demands of top-level management, the urge to explore new environments and cultures can become overwhelming. It’s about capturing the right inspiration for the next phase of one’s career.
Editor: He described Brann as a club that has given him so much. Reflecting on this sentiment, how do you think his time at Brann has shaped his coaching beliefs?
Dr. Svensson: His time at Brann was not just about tactics and training; it was also about building relationships and understanding the community’s passion for the club. Horneland’s experience there likely strengthened his approach to coaching—one that values connection alongside performance. This emotional intelligence can be an asset wherever he goes next.
Editor: That’s an interesting outlook. As he heads abroad, what do you think are his goals moving forward? Do you see him targeting any specific leagues or clubs?
Dr. Svensson: While it’s speculative, I believe Horneland will be looking for environments that challenge him tactically and personally. He may be drawn to leagues known for their competitive nature, perhaps in countries like Germany or the netherlands, where the emphasis on developing talent aligns with his demonstrated ability to nurture players.
editor: Before we wrap up, horneland did express that working at Brann had its demands. How do you think this performance pressure and emotional weight affect a coach’s decision to move on?
Dr. Svensson: The intensity of expectations can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it fuels a coach’s passion and drive to succeed, but on the other, it can lead to burnout or a longing for new experiences. In Horneland’s case, it truly seems the pressure of maintaining high performance alongside his emotional ties became a catalyst for change. It indicates a healthy awareness of when to step away for the sake of personal well-being and professional growth.
