Bangalore: The state government has ordered the ‘Oi’ section to provide security following the intimidation of three judges, including the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, who ruled in the hijab case.

The Karnataka High Court has upheld the ban on wearing the hijab in school classrooms in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Ritu Raj Aswathy received death threats in a video posted on WhatsApp by a lawyer named Umapathy. This he brought to the notice of the Registrar of the High Court.
In a letter to the registrar, Umapathy said: “I got a WhatsApp video from someone I know. In it, it was shocking that the Chief Justice and others who had banned the hijab were threatened with death in the video which was spoken in Tamil. Speaking at a public meeting in Tamil Nadu (probably Madurai), the speaker referred to the murder of a judge who was walking on the road in Jharkhand, as well as threatening the Karnataka High Court judge and saying that he knew all about his whereabouts. Thus stated in that letter.

Based on this, the Karnataka police have registered a case against an unidentified person and are conducting an investigation.

In this context, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Puppet said: We have decided to provide ‘oi’ section protection to the judges who have given judgment in the hijab case. I have directed the DG and IG to conduct an inquiry into the case registered at the Vidhan Sabha police station in connection with the intimidation of judges. Thus he said.
