The government today (Sunday) approved the proposal of the Minister of Religions, Matan Kahana, to promote the establishment of a conversion system for city rabbis, prior to its approval in the Knesset within the framework of the stuck conversion law.

The purpose of the government approval is to allow the immediate establishment of the conversion system of city rabbis without waiting until the end of the legislative process, which will continue only at the summer conference.

During the yeshiva, an argument broke out between Kahana and some of the ministers who oppose his outline, claiming that he still gives too much power to the chief rabbinate.

The chairman of Yisrael Beiteinu, Minister Avigdor Lieberman, said at the hearing: “It does not improve the situation. There will be dramatic changes between first and second and third readings. The rabbinate is the final decision-maker. The law is not good. Does not improve the situation at all. He can not pass. “

He was joined by Minister Oded Forer: “There are coalition agreements. It should have come up within 60 days.”

Minister of Religions Kahana: “You do not know the law and unfortunately also refuse to meet with me. We have already talked about the miracle outline before. I told you that I would happily promote it. Come on .. but you rightly did not want the miracle law because in my law much better.”

Minister Zeev Elkin added: “This coalition is also incapable of promoting the Miracles Law.”

Kahana: “True. From Friday we have been trying to understand if there is an incident here, you are ignoring. What kind of behavior is this? This law is good and necessary for the Jewish identity of the state.”

In the end, the three ministers of Yisrael Beiteinu abstained from voting, as a protest against Minister Kahana’s plan.

“It’s Israbloff”

As we recall on Friday, officials in Yisrael Beiteinu spoke with Srugim and claimed: “Kahana is smearing us, in this proposed resolution there is nothing that can prepare the infrastructure for converting city rabbis other than worrying about a job for Kahana’s associates.”

According to the same sources: “What he brings is Israbloff and this is a position he wants to bring only to appoint people close to him – there is no chance that we will agree to it.”
