243 congress delegates voted for Indrikson, 25 delegates voted against, four ballots were invalid.
The party’s statutes were also changed at the congress, which stipulates that in the future the chairman of the party will be elected for two years instead of one, as was the case until now.
A new party board was also approved, in which Indriksone, Uģis Mitrevics, Jānis Vitenbergs, Nauris Puntulis, Ināra Mūrniece, Jānis Grasbergs, Edmunds Teirumnieks, Edgars kristaps Rupeiks, Artūrs Butāns, Jānis Dombrava, Raivis Dzintars, Rihards Kols, Āirts Lapiņš, Dainis Locis, will work. Imants Paradnieks, edvards Ratnieks and Roberts Zīle.
Opening the congress, the former party leader Raivis Dzintars reminded of the beginnings of the youth organization ”Visu Latvijai!” he created, which later became one of the founders of the National Union. He admitted that NA and before that “Visu Latvijai!” for more then 20 years, it has been more than a job, position or social activity. the current NA chairman thanked the party members and supporters who believe in the ideals of a Latvian Latvia and are able to agree on common goals.
Dzintars emphasized that, despite the individualism frequently enough characteristic of Latvians, NA has managed for many years to ensure that there is one and only nationally conservative party in Latvia.
The organization is said to have a sufficiently large internal diversity, yet able to agree, cooperate and achieve results. “Others have come and gone, we are standing firm and strong,” Dzintars boasted.
He reminded that NA has been at the top of the list for a long time in party popularity ratings, but the latest ratings show that it is the most highly rated party. “From stable and good positions, we have to take the next step to winning positions. There are other circumstances in which these words would sound loud, but today I can say with confidence: the rule of nationally conservative forces is a question of the long-term existence of Latvia as an independent and Latvian state,” he emphasized Amber.
Indriksone, addressing the participants of the congress after being elected as the chairperson, emphasized the need to strengthen Latvia’s economy.
“Latvia is our home, where strength lies both in cultural wealth and in the people who live and work here. Our national heritage and the Latvian language are the foundation that ensures our identity and pride in being Latvians,” said Indriksone.
In order for this heritage not only to be preserved, but also to continue in future generations,it is indeed necessary to build a strong economy that ensures everyone’s well-being and security, the politician emphasized. “let Latvia be a place where families want to stay or return and raise their children, where regions develop on par with cities and where every resident feels that his work and life are valued here. And this is the common duty and task – to build a strong, self-sufficient and a united country where everyone feels valued and secure about their future and that of their children,” said Indriksone.
According to the NA statutes, a new composition of the party board and the chairman of the board, as well as representatives of ethics and audit commissions, were elected at the congress.
As reported, long-time party leader Raivis Dzintars did not run for the position of party chairman this year. For this position, the board of NA had unanimously nominated Saeima MP, former Minister of Economy Indriksoni.
Dzintars led the party since its creation in 2010. In a letter to party members this fall, Dzintars explained that he had made a decision not to run for the position of party chairman at this year’s congress, while at the same time expressing his readiness to work on the NA board.
Conversely, Indriksone has emphasized that the change of NA leadership is not related to a split in the party. According to the politician, the change of party leadership will be a step towards NA becoming the leading party and leading the government.
What are the potential implications of Indrikson’s election as chairman for the future of the National Alliance?
Title: Time.news Exclusive interview with Political Analyst Dr. Elina Veselova on the Recent National Alliance Congress
Time.news Editor: Welcome to Time.news, Dr.Veselova. We’re thrilled to have you with us today to discuss the recent National Alliance (NA) congress and the election of its new chairman, Indrikson. Let’s start with the voting outcomes—243 delegates voted in favor of Indrikson’s leadership. How significant is this level of support in party politics?
Dr. Elina Veselova: Thank you for having me. It’s great to be here! The support for Indrikson is quite significant. A vote of 243 in favor versus just 25 against indicates a strong consensus among the delegates. this kind of backing suggests that Indrikson has the confidence of the party base, which is crucial for effective leadership, especially in a party like NA that has a history of strong ideological currents.
Time.news Editor: Interesting! You mentioned strong ideological currents. Can you elaborate on the implications of changing the party’s statutes to elect the chairman for a two-year term instead of one?
Dr. Elina Veselova: Absolutely. This change can be seen as a move towards stability and long-term planning. A two-year term will allow the chairman more time to implement policies and strategies, build networks, and strengthen party unity. This can be especially vital for NA as they navigate the complex political landscape in Latvia and seek to enrich their message to attract a broader voter base.
Time.news Editor: I see. And speaking of the broader political landscape, the newly approved party board includes a diverse group of members such as Ināra Mūrniece and Jānis Vitenbergs. what does this diversity indicate about the party’s direction under Indrikson’s leadership?
Dr. Elina veselova: The composition of the new party board reflects a purposeful effort to encompass a range of perspectives and experiences within the party. it suggests that Indrikson is looking to engage diffrent factions and voices, which is essential for a party aiming to remain relevant. A diverse leadership can help address various issues that resonate with different segments of society, from economic concerns to social policies.
Time.news Editor: Reflecting back on the remarks made by former party leader Raivis Dzintars, who reminisced about the origins of the party and its youth institution, how important is historical continuity for the National Alliance?
Dr. Elina Veselova: Historical continuity is vital for any political party, especially one with deep-rooted ideology like NA. Dzintars’ reference to the party’s origins serves not only as a reminder of its foundational values but also reinforces a sense of identity and purpose. This connection to history can strengthen loyalty among members, especially older generations, while also providing a narrative for engaging younger voters who may be searching for purpose in political affiliations.
Time.news Editor: That’s a great point. As we look ahead, what challenges do you foresee Indrikson and the National Alliance facing in the current political surroundings?
Dr. Elina Veselova: NA will face several challenges, such as the need to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive political landscape, where many parties are vying for voter attention.Additionally, addressing pressing issues like economic inequality and public services will be critical. They must also navigate internal party dynamics and ensure cohesion among diverse board members. Balancing tradition with innovation will be key to continuing their relevance.
Time.news Editor: Thank you, Dr. Veselova, for your insights into the recent developments within the National Alliance and the political implications moving forward. It’s a complex yet important time for Latvian politics, and we appreciate your perspectives.
Dr. Elina Veselova: Thank you for having me. It’s an important conversation, and I look forward to the future developments within the National Alliance and their impact on Latvia.
