New threat to war in Ukraine: Russia claimed today (Saturday) that it used a Kinegal supersonic surface-to-air missile, which has never been used operationally to date, to hit an ammunition depot in the western Ukrainian town of Dalyatan. According to a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, the missile hit underground warehouses and caused their destruction.

In Kiev confirmed that the warehouse in question was indeed damaged, but did not specify whether the use of the new weapon actually happened. It is a weapon that was first unveiled in 2018 by Russian President Vladimir Putin, when he said “the missile cannot be intercepted and is capable of penetrating all of the world’s air defense systems.” The missile has a range of up to 2,000 km, and moves at 10 times the speed of sound.

At the same time, it was reported that Russia had also bombed from the air a base in the north of the city of Mikulaev in the south of the country, and at least 40 soldiers were reportedly killed. Rescue crews worked to try and locate survivors among the rubble, and even managed to rescue one person – but at this point there is still concern for the lives of many missing persons.
