Daniel Keller (SPD) is said to have used an academic title that he does not have. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating.

The Potsdam public prosecutor’s office is investigating the new Brandenburg Economics Minister Daniel Keller (SPD) for possibly misusing an academic title. According to press reports, an investigation was initiated, said public prosecutor Hanna Urban when asked. When asked this morning, Keller said that he had no knowledge of any public prosecutor’s investigations.

The “BZ” had reported that Keller had used the academic bachelor’s degree before he received the necessary certificate from the Hagen Open University. Keller said that he had never made a secret of the fact that “I had not yet completed my degree.”

Keller added that he had “informed both the state parliament and my parliamentary group that I had successfully completed my bachelor’s degree in political science, administrative science and sociology. That is also what the university confirmed to me.”

According to “BZ”, the university is of the opinion: “The academic degree “Bachelor of Arts” may be used after the official award. The award takes place when the certificate is issued by the distance learning university in Hagen.” The final grade and certificate are not yet available, writes the newspaper.

According to the Criminal Code, academic degrees may not be used without authorization. Violations can result in a prison sentence of up to one year or a fine.
