ICC Penalises Bengaluru For Producing ‘Below Average’ Pitch, Gets One Demerit Point, Unfit Bangalore International Pitch

by time news
The ICC has fined Bangalore for failing to put up a quality pitch after the second Test between India and Sri Lanka ended in three days. Match referee Jawaharlal Srinath, in a statement to the World Organization, described the match as ‘match between bat and ball’ and gave it a below-average rating as the pamphlet pitch’s performance was not appropriate. The ICC awarded a demerit point to Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to the revised ICC pitch and outfield monitoring process, pitches rated by match referees as below-average pitches receive one demerit point, while three and five demerit points are awarded to the worst and most ineligible points, respectively. Demerit points are valid for a period of five years and if they accumulate up to five, the venue will be suspended from hosting any international cricket for 12 months.

16 wickets fell on the opening day of the match between India and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka lost five wickets in 4.4 overs the next morning. Sri Lanka captain Timothy Karunaratne struggled and scored a century but could not help his team on a pitch that was deteriorating minute by minute.

“The pitch gave a lot of turns on the first day and although it improved with each session, in my view, it was not a match between bat and ball,” Srinath said in a statement. Sri Lanka chased down 447 for victory and Timothy Karunaratne scored 107. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 208 in the third over. India also won the opening Test three days later in Mohali, and a win in the Pink-Ball game helped them advance to No. 4 in the 2-0 Whitewash and World Test Championship (WTC) table.

It would not matter if they put pitfalls like this to advance to the final of the World Test Championship. But the question is what it means to have a routine of the same. No longer do the big teams have to send their country B team, why should the good team come here and get stuck in the pit? Not all of these disqualification points are correct. It is better to cancel the test result.
