Kudus DISTRICT, Central Java, has a sports program for early childhood children through Smart Mobile PAUD as a form of support for the government program to implement sports activities for at least one hour per day.

Smart Mobile PAUD activities lasted for three days, from Friday (13/12) to Sunday (15/12). The number of participants was 650 early childhood children from five PAUD institutions, namely Kalirejo Integrated PAUD, PG Rendeng Kindergarten, RA Nurul Haq, Cahaya Nur Kindergarten, and Masehi Kindergarten.
The PAUD physical motor stimulation program, organized by Bakti Pendidikan Djarum Foundation, collaborated with a team of lecturers from Semarang State University and Soegijapranata Catholic University and involved 45 teachers from KB/TK and RA in Kudus.
For six months starting in July 2024, teachers will participate in intensive training and mentoring to strengthen their capacity to support the physical motor development of children aged 4-6 years.
They get different ideas for physical activities according to the child’s stage of development, as well as how to manage time and carry out assessments effectively. In addition, parenting classes give parents the opportunity to support their children’s physical activity at home.
Now, the five PAUDs have succeeded in increasing the duration of physical motor activities from two to four hours per week and integrating them into daily routines, such as routines before class, transitions between classes, and core learning activities . One example is that children move to the dining room by jumping on steps on the school floor.
This increase in physical activity hours provides children with several benefits, one of which is increased physical fitness. The results of the pre-post test showed a significant positive effect on the ability to run, jump, grip strength and body balance. Most of the children who were previously in the very low category have now moved up to the middle category.
“After we implemented consistent physical activity at school, we saw that children were healthier, fitter, and more enthusiastic about coming to school. When they ate, children also became tastier. Between the during this time, their communication, empathy and teamwork skills improved, “so you feel that the child has changed well,” said So seeni, RA School Principal Nurul Haq who also received the training program.
Djarum Foundation Education Service Program Deputy Director Felicia Hanitio said that many researches show the importance of consistent physical motor activity from an early age.
“Unfortunately, many PAUD are still caught up in society’s pressure to pursue cognitive development such as reading, writing and numeracy skills, while other aspects of development are given less attention,” he said.
Although the time was short because it was only six months to prepare, he said, some PAUDs in Kudus managed to integrate physical activities that supported the growth and overall development of children.
“We are committed to continuing to help spread this impact to several schools in Kudus. We hope it will inspire schools outside Kudus as well,” he said.
The results of the PAUD children’s training were celebrated through a three-day Smart Mobile PAUD “demonstration”. Activities include exposure to data on changes in children’s fitness and health as well as fun athletic competitions.
A total of 650 PAUD children participated in group games designed to develop their ability to run, jump, throw, catch and balance, while instilling the values of sportsmanship, cooperation and self-reliance from an early age.
Children and teachers who excel in various categories also receive awards in the hope that they will be a source of motivation for teachers, children and parents to continue to support motor motor activities and implement them consistently, at school and at home . (Ant/Z-6)
