On the 17th, ‘Harbin’ released a poster along with the news of the opening of the IMAX special theater. ‘Harbin’ is a work that depicts the breathtaking chase and suspicion between those who head to Harbin for a single purpose and those who pursue them in 1909.
‘Harbin’ will film the entire sequence with the ARRI ALEXA 65 camera and provide an aspect ratio of 1.90:1 that expands up and down to fit the screen that only IMAX can fill, providing unparalleled visuals of the highest quality. In the case of ‘Harbin’, there are scenes with extended tops and bottoms that can only be viewed in IMAX format. This is the first Korean film to be ‘specially produced solely in the IMAX format’, and whenever major sequences of ‘Harbin’ unfold, such as the fierce scene of the Battle of Shinasan against the backdrop of the Duman River, the expanded IMAX screen delivers an overwhelming experience to the audience. It is expected to provide a sense of immersion and high satisfaction. Finding the details of scenes that can only be found in the IMAX format will be another viewing point.
Regarding the collaboration between ‘Harbin’ and IMAX, Christopher Tillman, Vice President of the IMAX Overseas Development and Distribution Team, said, “We are very excited to meet Korean audiences by specially producing the dramatic scenery and attractive story of ‘Harbin’ in the IMAX format, the first Korean film to do so.” “I’m happy,” he said, expressing high expectations, adding, “Some scenes in the movie will be expanded to 1.90:1 to fill the screen, allowing audiences to become more immersed in ‘Harbin.’”
The IMAX poster released along with this also provides a preview of ‘Harbin”s vast global locations in three countries and its sensuous mise-en-scène, peaking the interest of prospective audiences. The IMAX poster depicts General Ahn Jung-geun (played by Hyun Bin) standing alone on Khovsgol Lake at -40 degrees Celsius, showing both the overwhelming visuals and General Ahn Jung-geun’s deep agony. In addition, CGV is planning to hold an event where it will provide IMAX original posters to IMAX customers.
Meanwhile, ‘Harbin’ is a collaboration between director Woo Min-ho and Hive Media Corp., which has produced all films since ‘Insiders’, and will be released on the 24th.
