BOLZANO. L’Alpine Club Südtirol, the German-speaking Alpine club of Alto Adige, harshly criticizes the fact that drivers of luxury cars were allowed to reach the Comici refuge in Val Gardena.
The photo is circulating online: two Lamborghinis parked in front of the refuge in the heart of the Dolomites. “So much driving force with so many exhaust fumes are probably more appreciated by ski mountaineers who reach the refuge with the strength of their muscles on their skis”, says the president of the Avs Georg Simeoni. “The mountain habitat is already very developed – the Alpenverein has for years been firmly of the opinion that the limit has already been reached. These luxury vehicles then most likely reached the Comici refuge via the widened path that crosses the Città dei Sassi , a project negatively evaluated by environmental organizations”.
“We see these events as a provocation, as ignorance of any rules of behavior in the mountains. Regardless of the purpose: luxury cars must not find space in a refuge”, continues Simeoni. The fact in question proves that accessibility creates desire. “This is why we oppose new development and expansion projects on the mountain.” The president of the AVS invites politicians and law enforcement agencies “to get to the bottom of this fact, to clarify any responsibilities and, if necessary, to sanction them”.
