Isak Andic, founder and non-executive chairman of the renowned Mango brand, has died aged 71 following a tragic accident. According to the company, the incident happened on Saturday.

“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the unexpected death of Isak Andic, the man who pioneered our company and transformed Mango into a global fashion leader,” company CEO Tony Ruiz said in a statement. Details of the incident have not been released, but according to Spanish media reports, Andic died in a fall while hiking near Barcelona.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez paid tribute to the entrepreneur, noting his outstanding contribution to the development of the Spanish fashion industry. “His hard work and business vision have made Mango a global symbol of Spanish fashion,” Sanchez wrote on social media.

Isak Andic, born into a family of Sephardic Jews who emigrated from Turkey to Spain, began his journey in the fashion industry with the opening of the first Mango store in Barcelona in 1984. Over the course of several decades, the brand has become one of the largest fast fashion producers in Europe, taking a leading position in the global market.

Today Mango has 2,700 stores in 120 countries. In 2023, the company achieved record sales of 3.1 billion euros, continuing to develop rapidly. The brand is currently focusing on expanding its presence in the US, with plans to open 65 new stores by the end of 2025.
