The woman’s breast appears to be perforated by the rusty metal on which the work restsAlthough the little one seems distressed and unable to feed itself.
A post on Banksy’s official Instagram profile appeared to be just an image of the work and does not provide any representation of the work, or information on how it should be interpreted.
Interpretations of social media
So different interpretations have spread quickly on social media while waiting for some clarification. Many commentators have drawn links between the apparent suffering of the mother and child and the current war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Stripespecially for the ongoing humanitarian emergency among Palestinian civilians. This is a very quiet theme for Banksy, who previously focused on the wall built by Israel on the border with the Palestinian territory on the West Bank with one of his works.
