jpnn.comJAKARTA – Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan DPP for Executive Election Winning Deddy Yevri Sitorus said that the people cannot be used as scapegoats when political contestations are expensive.

According to Deddy, election costs are expensive because candidates bypass morals, ethics and laws and prioritize greed in the contest.

“So, don’t just blame the people for the high costs, because those who sprinkled the money are indeed the political elite themselves, right?” he said when met at the PDIP DPP office, Central Jakarta, Friday (13/12).

Meanwhile, Deddy said this in response to the statement by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto who proposed that regional head elections (pilkada) be returned to the DPRD.

Prabowo feels that holding the 2024 regional elections will cost a lot of money and elections through the DPRD are the answer to this problem.

The head of state considers regional elections through the DPRD to be more efficient and effective, as is done by neighboring countries, namely Malaysia and Singapore.

Deddy said that political parties and contestants who build a base of support at the grassroots do not need big money to gain votes. Things are different when they don’t have grassroots power.

“If you want to play shortcuts, like it or not, you will definitely play for big money,” said the former Walhi activist.
