The Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Maneroreported that the Mexican Government requested the United States, the extradition of Dámaso López Serrano “El Mini Lic”the intellectual author of the journalist Javier Valdezwhich occurred in May 2017.
“That is the fundamental issue for us, he is the intellectual author of that murder, as you know the rest of the authors and we have them prosecuted and in jail, we were missing this one,” he said.

From the National Palace, the head of the FGRAlejandro Gertz Manero commented that the delivery of “El mini Lic” has been requested countless times from the United States Government, however, they have indicated that Dámaso López is a protected witness.
“That I was giving them a lot of informationwhich is why they couldn’t help us in that way. Now, with this situation in which they themselves recognize that this individual is committing a crime (extradition was requested again),” he commented.

It is worth mentioning that Dámaso López Serrano is son of Dámaso López Núñezwho was close to Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and participated in his escape from Altiplano in 2015and is accused of having ordered the murder of journalist Javier Valdez.
Meanwhile, Dámaso López Serrano has collaborated as a protected witness for the United States, and offered interviews with journalistswhere he has revealed the internal structure of the Sinaloa Cartel.
