The autonomy initiative, presented by Morocco in 2007, is a “very serious and very credible plan, and constitutes a key contribution” to bring about the process led by the United Nations towards a definitive solution to the Sahara question, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg told the press.

The head of Austrian diplomacy, who spoke following an interview with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, held on the sidelines of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, also welcomed the “excellent” relations between the two countries.

“We have a long diplomatic history of very fruitful relations between Austria and Morocco”, which covers a wide range of areas, particularly economically and politically.

In this regard, Mr. Schallenberg expressed his country’s desire to further deepen these relations.

Welcoming the signing, during this meeting, of a bilateral agreement on the transfer of convicted persons, Mr. Schallenberg affirmed that this mechanism reflects “the partnership and friendship which bind our two countries”.
