The cold prevails! Yellow Alert issued for low temperatures in CDMX

The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) asset yellow alert by forecast low temperatures in the CDMX.

This Wednesday, December 18, through an information sheet, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of CDMX informed the inhabitants of 6 municipalities about the activation of the Yellow Alert, due to the low temperatures that are forecast for dawn this Thursday.

In this regard, the capital agency detailed at 12:30 p.m. that between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. low temperatures between 4° to 6° C are forecast in the following areas:

  • Alvaro Obregon
  • Cuajimalpa
  • Magdalena Contreras
  • Milpa Alta
  • Tlalpan
  • Xochimilco

However, the SMN in its report that day detailed that the meteorological conditions will be presented in this way because the cold front No. 15 has been reinforced by a polar air mass so it will move over the North Table, it will also interact with a low pressure channel extended over the northeast and east of the national territory, which will lead to strong gusts of wind, showers and heavy rain at times very heavy in the aforementioned regions, as well as a drop in temperature in the north and northeast of the country, with possible frosts during the early Thursday, in addition to fog banks at dawn.

In turn, low pressure channels over the west of the Mexican Republic and the Yucatan Peninsula, in combination with the moisture ingress of the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, will produce rains and intervals of showers in areas of the west, center and south of the Mexican territory, in addition to the Yucatan Peninsula, with heavy rains to very heavy occasional rains in Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco and Quintana Roo.

On the other hand, it was reported that the atmosphere will remain cold to very cold during this night and early Thursday morning in the northwest of the country, due to the fact that the Mesa del Norte and the Mesa Central, which will generate possible frosts in high areas of those regions.

Due to the above, the SGIRPC recommended to the residents of the capital:

  • If you feel any discomfort, go to the nearest Health Center.
  • Eat plenty of water, fruits and vegetables with vitamin A and C.
  • Dress appropriately, cover your nose and mouth.
  • Use cream to hydrate and protect your skin from the cold
  • Avoid sudden changes in temperature.
