Chancellor Scholz called X “an incompetent fool… “You must resign immediately.”
5 dead, 200 injured in Christmas market attack
Tesla CEO Elon Musk criticized German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as an “incompetent idiot” and urged him to resign immediately in connection with the German Christmas market car crash incident.
According to CNN on the 21st (local time), Musk said on X (old Twitter), “Scholz must resign immediately. “He is an incompetent fool.”
This is not the first time he has criticized Chancellor Scholz. CEO Musk mocked Chancellor Scholz as a “foolish person” even after the German coalition government collapsed last month.
CEO Musk was appointed as co-head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was newly created during the second Trump administration.
The previous day, he also sent a message expressing support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of Germany’s early general elections. He posted a short message on X: “Only the AfD can save Germany.”
After Chancellor Scholz was voted no-confidence in the Federal Assembly, he requested President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to dissolve parliament and hold an early general election, and the German general election was moved from September next year to February 23.
Earlier, at around 7 p.m. on the 20th, a car crashed into the Christmas market in Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt in central-eastern Germany. This incident left 5 people dead and over 200 injured. Of these, about 40 are in critical condition.
German authorities said the suspect was a 50-year-old Saudi man who had lived legally in Germany since 2006.
Chancellor Scholz visited Magdeburg immediately after the incident and condemned the terrorist act.
Chancellor Scholz told reporters at the scene, “There is no place in Germany as peaceful and joyful as the Christmas market. People gather here ahead of the Christmas festival to drink old wine, eat sausages, relax and spend time together.” .
He expressed gratitude to the citizens and emergency responders who rushed to the scene to help the injured, and emphasized, “What is important now is to conduct an appropriate and careful investigation to determine what happened.”
