The Turkish publication Haberturk published information that former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad faced restrictions in Russia.
According to the publication, he was prohibited from leaving Moscow and engaging in political activities, and his property was frozen. In addition, the publication claimed that Assad’s wife, Asma, was dissatisfied with living conditions in Russia and filed for divorce, planning to move to London. However, the Kremlin categorically denied these claims.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, in a commentary for RBC, called these messages unreliable. When asked whether the information published by Haberturk was true, he replied:
“No, it doesn’t match.”
The Turkish publication claimed that Asma Assad’s application for divorce is under consideration, and her dissatisfaction is caused by the deterioration of living conditions in Russia. However, the publication did not provide evidence or references to specific sources.
Earlier, Kursor reported that new details of the last days of Assad’s rule in Syria had become known. The dictator’s flight marked the end of his family’s 50-year authoritarian rule in the country.
In addition, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin recently said that Russia was not defeated in Syria and that Moscow has made proposals to the new rulers of Damascus regarding Russian military bases in the country. He also answered whether he saw Assad after the collapse of his regime in Syria.
