Azerbaijani society sets an example to the whole world with its religious tolerance and multiculturalism.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, First Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) Ali Akhmedov stated this today at the Forum of Religious Figures of Azerbaijan on the topic “Current Issues of Religious Education: Traditions, Experience and Prospects.”
He noted that Azerbaijan is a center of tolerance.
“Religion is a powerful factor. This power must be used correctly. In this sense, the importance of religious education is beyond doubt.
During the years of Soviet power, atheism was promoted in Azerbaijan. But after the country gained independence, the attitude towards religious views in our society changed,” he added.
It should be noted that on December 23, a Forum of religious figures of Azerbaijan is being held in Baku on the topic “Current issues of religious education: traditions, experience and prospects,” organized by the State Committee for Work with Religious Education of Azerbaijan.
More than 100 religious figures, representatives of relevant government agencies, various faiths operating in Azerbaijan, as well as teachers of religious educational institutions, theologians and specialists take part in the Forum.
The forum is aimed at increasing public awareness of religious threats, increasing the role of religious figures in the process of religious education, as well as studying opinions and proposals on the activities of religious communities and figures, and the difficulties they face.
