After weak sales figures with the “Vision Pro”, Apple wants to open up new markets. According to reports, a completely new product is coming to market.
Artificial intelligence and smart home: Apple wants to further network these two systems and is planning a doorbell with facial recognition. This is reported by the usually well-informed “Bloomberg” reporter Mark Gurman.
Accordingly, the group wants to equip the device with its biometric facial recognition Face ID. For several years, Face ID has allowed iPhone and iPad users to unlock their devices, release payments or log in to other providers.
This is exactly how the smart doorbell should automatically unlock the door for the residents of a house – by scanning the residents’ faces. It is likely that the doorbell system works with locks from other providers, writes Gurman.
It is not known when the device will come onto the market. However, the report fits with reports about Apple’s efforts to focus more strongly on the market for smart home devices than before.
It was already announced in the summer that the company was working on an iPad-like device that would be connected to a robot arm. The device would be an alternative to smart home products such as Amazon’s Echo Show 10 and the Facebook Group’s discontinued Meta portal.
The table robot is intended as a control center for smart home devices such as heating thermostats, lamps and music systems, it said. It is very likely that the smart door opener planned by Apple can be integrated into the control center.
In addition to these new devices, according to Gurman, existing products will receive an update next year. Among other things, the group wants to equip its HomePod with its own chip called “Proxima”. This is intended to replace previous Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips and be able to integrate Apple devices into existing networks better than before.
