Tied for the lead until the second round of the PNC Championship… tool knee
Tiger Woods (49, USA), the ‘Emperor of Golf’, unfortunately finished in second place after a close battle in an event competition in which he participated with his son Charlie (15). In particular, Charlie received a lot of applause after recording a hole-in-one.
Woods and his wife swept a hole-in-one (eagle) and 13 birdies in the final second round of the PNC Championship (total prize money of $1,085,000) held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club (par 72) in Orlando, Florida, USA on the 23rd (Korean time). They combined for 57 strokes, 15 under par.
Woods and his wife, who recorded a final total of 28 under par and 116 strokes, tied with Bernhard Langer (Germany) and Jason Langer and went on to play in overtime, and gave the championship trophy to Langer and his son, who captured an eagle in the overtime.
This is a competition in which players who have won major championships team up with their families, including parents and children, to determine the winner through a 36-hole scramble over two days (each player hits a shot, then selects the ball that hit better and hits the next shot).
This is the fifth time Woods and his son Charlie have participated in this competition, and they recorded their best result with another runner-up finish in 2021.
In particular, on this day, Charlie made a hole-in-one at the 4th hole (par 3), drawing gasps from the galleries. In the final 18th hole (par 5), he showed off his long shot by sending his tee shot as far as 292 yards.
Although it was a disappointing runner-up finish, it was a meaningful tournament in that it was Woods’ first appearance in the field in five months and his son Charlie showed remarkable growth.
In addition, Woods’ daughter Sam carried the caddy bag for the second year in a row.
Langer and his wife prevented Woods and his wife from winning, achieving their second consecutive victory following last year. The winning prize is 200,000 dollars (about 290 million won).
Langer, 67 years old, is a ‘legendary’ golf player from the 1990s who achieved a total of 42 wins on the European Tour, including two Masters titles.
In particular, he won a whopping 6 times in the PNC Championship alone, 2 times with his second oldest Stefan, and the remaining 4 times with his youngest son Jason.
Nellie Korda (USA), the world number one in women’s golf, participated with her father, Petr Korda, winner of the Australian Open, a major tennis tournament, and tied for 8th place with a final total of 20 under par.
Annika Sorenstam (Sweden), who holds the record for the most career wins (72 on the LPGA Tour), ranked 11th with her 13-year-old son, Will McGee.
