The Chairman of the Committee for Verifying Libyan Funds Frozen Abroad in the House of Representatives, “Youssef Al-Aqouri,” expressed his great interest in the work of the House of Representatives to prepare a draft law on combating money laundering, smuggling, and terrorist financing, to present it to the House of Representatives for discussion and to express the opinion of the members of the House of Representatives on it.

Al-Aqouri renewed his appreciation for the House of Representatives’ interest in strengthening the legal framework related to combating financial crimes, which came based on follow-up by the Verification Committee on that subject.

Al-Aqouri considered the approval of the aforementioned law an important step towards enhancing transparency and combating money-related crimes, which will reflect greater stability on national financial institutions, stressing the need for all financial institutions to adhere in the current period to the media statements they issue, and that the situation is stable and there is no serious threat to the financial institutions. Al-Aqouri welcomed all proposals and comments that could contribute to enhancing financial transparency and good governance in the national banking system, explaining that the conditions of the Libyan economy are currently stable, noting the House of Representatives’ keenness to give the issue of economic stability the highest priority given the impact this has on the standard of living of the Libyan citizen.
