Iran said it supports Syria’s sovereignty and that the country should not become a “haven for terrorism.”

“Our principled position on Syria is very clear: preserving the sovereignty and integrity of Syria and giving the people of Syria the right to decide their future without destructive foreign interference,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bakaei said, adding that the country should not “become a haven for terrorism.”

He added: “We have no direct contact with [новой] ruling power in Syria.”

Tehran has strongly supported ousted dictator Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian civil war.

Cursor previously wrote that Iran is considering the possibility of creating an air corridor to Lebanon to supply the Hezbollah terrorist group after it lost a land route through Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The Times noted that this would be a violation of the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hezbollah.

An unnamed regional source told the publication that negotiations are underway in Tehran on this issue. According to the source, Western countries are “concerned that Iran has lost [Дамаск как] its main airport in the region for arms smuggling and is now trying to turn Beirut airport into its new logistics hub, as was done in Syria.”

They added that such actions “could lead to the next escalation.”

Israel has said it will enforce the ceasefire in Lebanon by force if necessary.
