BOLZANO. The Southern Mountain Basin Planning Office of the Province of Bolzano continues its revitalization work along the Adige river. “The modern protection of waterways represents integrated protection – underlines the president of the Province and councilor for civil protection Arno Kompatscher – the ecological functionality of waterways is considered with the same importance as protection against floods, as demonstrated by the work underway along the Adige”.
In the municipality of Vadenaon the left orographic bank, 700 meters are revitalized, instead of the 400 initially planned. Some interventions are being carried out to offer refuge to reptiles, amphibians and birds in the future. Even in municipality of Bronzolo the renaturalization works are carried out on the orographic left bank of the Adige, over a length of 300 metres; the interventions involve the widening of the river bed and the removal of a large outpost area.
At the same time, flood protection is increased reinforcing the banks with cyclopean stones. In the third construction site a Terlano the outpost on the left orographic bank is also removed, the embankment is strengthened and the river bed is structured. The cycle path that passes along the river will have to be closed. The work will continue over the next few weeks, weather permitting, and should be completed by Easter next year. The three lots of works are financed thanks to funds guaranteed by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.
