A Delta Airlines passenger was furious after he was forced to give up his first class seat to “another passenger” – and that “VIP” turned out to be a dog, not a person.
On social media, the passenger said he was initially upgraded to first class, but after 15 minutes he was moved to a more uncomfortable seat than the one he originally had. He contacted the flight attendant and learned that “something had changed.” However, when he boarded the plane, he saw a dog sitting in his first class seat. “Now I’m angry,” he said, adding that it was quite a surprise.
After contacting Delta customer service, the passenger learned that in some cases, accommodating a dog that provides emotional or other assistance requires making room for the animal. And that the company cannot do anything in such cases. “There is no way this dog is flying with this group like me,” he said, calling the situation an “absolute joke.” “Why stay loyal to this airline at all?” – he added.
According to Walla, many other passengers supported the dissatisfied customer. “You won’t see so many service dogs anywhere else. Just go to the airport and they are everywhere,” one user wrote. “This is only in the USA. This doesn’t happen in other countries,” said another.
“The dog is probably the most important member of the frequent flyer program,” one passenger joked, referring to the animal’s high status within the airline system.
However, despite the irritation, one of the company employees reminded that by law, passengers with special needs and their service animals have the right to priority seating in their preferred seats. “When I worked in reservations, it was always necessary to explain that Delta was required to provide such seats if a passenger with a disability requested it,” he wrote.
