Son Rompe Pera rocks with punk cumbia on vinyl

Recorded in 2022 in the studios Negro things from Bogotá and produced by Mario Galeano – mastermind of the Cumbiero Front -, the album contains hits such as “Black forest”, “Chucha” y “Cumbia is the New Punk”, in addition to collaborations from La Perla (Colombia), Anarkía Tropical (Chile) and Macha, leader of the Chilean band Chico Trujillo, among others.

Jesús Gama, better known as “That’s it”, one of the two founding marimber brothers of the group, expresses his joy at the launch. “We are very happy to be able to make the vinyl. It took us a couple of years, due to the amount of work, to be playing in different parts of the world, and to record songs with other friends,” he explains, referring to pieces like “El Saleroso”, together with Rocko Páez, “El Saleroso”, with Gil Gutiérrez, or “Tequila”, recorded together with Chicha Libre.

The acetate can be obtained at the band’s concerts, as well as in the store La Roma Records.

“It’s something artistic to have the design, the cover, and how it sounds,” Kacho details. “That makes me happy. I’m not such a collector, but I do like to select my records, I have my good vinyls (sic)”.

Since the digital release of “Chimborazo” in 2023, Son Rompe Pera has made it sound at festivals such as Roskilde (Denmark), Coachella (EU), Rio Babel (España), Colors of Ostrava Fest (Czech Republic), Paléo (Switzerland), Celebrate Brooklyn (EU), Montreal Jazz Festival (Canada), Womadeliade (Austrialia) and Womad (New Zealand). Among dozens of concerts all over the planet, the musician has some favorites, he says:

“I think that in the first place is our presentation at the Lunario, presenting the “Chimborazo”. Secondly, the Roskilde Festival. But also opening the Panteón Rococó in the United States has been very good for us, in Los Angeles it has been very nice; and in many festivals, in Australia and New Zealand, we have seen very interesting things, We have shared experiences with different artists from around the world”.

In addition to concerts, December 27 and 28 in California To present their vinyl, Son Rompe Pera will organize this Saturday, December 21, a great posada at the Hilvana Cultural Forum (Av. México-Tenochtitlán 17, col. Buenavista), where they will play live with special guests their two albums, Batuco and Chimborazo .

“Let’s play, especially for people who don’t know us yetthe two discs; There will be a selection of DJs, there will be a piñata, because it is an inn presenting the album and the Chimborazo album will be there on vinyl,” says Kacho, adding that among his guests will be The Pearlfrom Colombia, and the encouragement of the Mexican group Triciclo Circus Band.

“Especially in Mexico City we wanted to do a concert at the Hilvana, just us because we are going to present the two albums, and it will be something extended. It is something important to play at Hilvanabecause it was one of the first places that believed in us, so we are very happy and grateful,” he concludes.
