SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won (64) has been found to have told the court that he intends to withdraw his divorce suit from Noh So-young, art center director Nabi (63). The purpose is to first confirm the conclusion of ‘establishment of divorce’, which is not disputed by both parties, separately from the division of assets, which is the biggest issue.
According to the legal community on the 24th, it was confirmed that Chairman Choi submitted a withdrawal of action to the 1st Division of the Supreme Court (Chief Justice Seo Kyung-hwan), which is hearing the divorce lawsuit appeal on the 23rd. Previously, Chairman Choi also submitted the ‘Application for Confirmation of Divorce Litigation’ on the 4th. The reason that Chairman Choi’s side wants to first confirm the divorce with Director Roh, separately from the division of assets, is related to the reporting obligation to the Fair Trade Commission. If the divorce is not finalized, corporations related to former President Roh Tae-woo’s family, including Director Roh and East Asia Culture Center Chairman Roh Jae-heon, will also have to report. Chairman Choi’s side said on this day, “Under the Fair Trade Act, up to the third cousins of in-laws are related parties and are subject to reporting as affiliates,” and added, “The Roh family’s company establishment and ownership relationships are unclear, and it is difficult to accurately determine this, so it is a difficult situation.”
On the other hand, Director Noh’s side refuted, “Chairman Choi’s repeated applications for certification of the final judgment are part of an attempt to destroy the family that has been consistent since the beginning of the lawsuit to oust Jo Gangjicheo without dividing his assets.”
