jpnn.com – JAKARTA – The Philippine National Team defeated the Indonesian National Team in the fourth match of Group B ASEAN CUP 2024 at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java, Saturday (21/12) evening WIB.
Indonesia, who played with ten players after Muhammad Ferrari was given a red card in the 42nd minute, was unable to turn things around after Bjorn Kristensen got his name on the scoreboard with a penalty in the 69th minute.
Philippines National Team coach Albert Capellas said he was satisfied with the performance of his team in defeating the Indonesian National Team.
“Today luck is finally on our side. I am very happy for the players’ performance and also happy for the performance of the entire staff. I am very happy. I am very happy for all Filipino people,” said Albert Capellas in an official statement, Sunday (22/12).
He assessed that the Garuda Team put up a very difficult fight in this match, especially since the atmosphere and support provided by the Indonesian National Team supporters made it quite difficult for the Philippines.
“We know that we have a chance (to pass)… We know it will not be easy for us against Indonesia at home, it is very difficult. Indonesia makes our game scheme very difficult,” said Albert Capellas.
“However, on the other hand, the Philippines deserve to pass to the semifinals for what they have done in four matches. We should have qualified before, we failed because we wasted opportunities (against Vietnam),” he added.
The Philippines ensured that they graduated to the semifinals after being runners-up in Group B, accompanying Vietnam, who were group winners.
Philippine national team coach Albert Capellas emphasized that the Philippines is worthy of the 2024 ASEAN Cup semifinals. The Philippines beat the Indonesian national team 1-0 in the group match.
