jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency has responded to the case of extortion by police officers against spectators at the music festival, Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) in Jakarta on 13-15 December 2024.
Minister of Tourism (Menpar) Widiyanti Putri Wardhana appreciated the police’s quick steps in handling the case.
“The Ministry of Tourism expresses its highest appreciation to the National Police, especially the National Police Propam Division, which has moved quickly to investigate this incident and has arrested 18 police officers suspected of being the perpetrators,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana as reported by Antara, Monday (23/12).
According to him, this incident was very detrimental to DWP 2024 viewers who came from abroad.
Apart from that, this case also gives a negative image amidst the government’s efforts to encourage the promotion of Indonesia as a world-class tourist destination.
“The Ministry of Tourism has previously coordinated with related parties, including event promoters and the police, to immediately follow up and take the necessary steps since the information and concerns from tourists emerged to the public,” he added.
Widiyanti then apologized for the inconvenience and impact caused by the extortion incident on the DWP 2024 audience.
He explained that the alleged extortion by police officers went viral on social media after the confession of tourists from Malaysia who were forced to pay a certain amount of money.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy responded to the case of extortion by the police against DWP 2024 spectators.
