Top bullpen pitcher… Traded from Kiwoom to KIA
It was confirmed that right-hander Cho Sang-woo (30), who was traded to the KIA Tigers, had no major problems with his right shoulder and elbow.
KIA announced on the 24th, “As a result of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination of Cho Sang-woo’s right shoulder and elbow area at Sejong Sports Orthopedics on the 20th, he was diagnosed with no unusual findings.”
Jo Sang-woo, who ended the season early this year due to an elbow injury, is expected to take charge of KIA’s mound as normal in the 2025 season.
Cho Sang-woo transferred from Kiwoom Heroes to KIA, the 2024 season’s overall champion, through a trade on the 19th. To bring Cho Sang-woo, KIA gave up 1st and 4th round picks in the 2026 rookie draft and 1 billion won in cash.
Cho Sang-woo is considered one of the league’s top relievers. After graduating from Daejeon High School, he joined Nexen (now Kiwoom) in 2013 and began to stand out in 2014, his second year.
Although he briefly turned into a starter, he played most of his career as a bullpen pitcher. Starting in 2019, he began working as a closer pitcher and was named relief king with 33 saves in 2020. In the 2024 season, he performed well with 1 loss, 6 saves, 9 holds, and an ERA of 3.18 before his elbow injury.
