Henry Khoury said after his meeting with the Prime Minister, “Mikati will do everything required in order to follow up on this file, and we hope that through the contacts he will make, he will reach positive results,” noting that “at the present time there are meetings of the Emergency Authority that was formed through a decision.” Issued by the Council of Ministers and it is doing its part. He added: “It is clear that all the prisons in Syria have been liberated from all prisoners, and everyone is waiting to see if there are secret prisons whose prisoners are still not liberated,” expressing his hope that “missing Lebanese who were arrested or arrested by the Syrian authorities will be found, and we hope that they will be found.” “Things give positive results.”

In a related context, Lebanon submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council regarding Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement that entered into force about a month ago.

In detail, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, through the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York, submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council containing a strong protest against the repeated violations committed by Israel of the “Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities and obligations related to enhanced security arrangements towards the implementation of Security Council Resolution No. 1701, which… There were more than 816 ground and air attacks between November 27 and December 22, 2024.

Lebanon indicated in the complaint, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the Israeli violations “from bombing Lebanese border villages, booby-trapping homes, destroying residential neighborhoods, and blocking roads undermine efforts to calm the situation and avoid military escalation, and represent a serious threat to international efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region, and they also complicate Lebanon’s efforts to implement… The provisions of Resolution 1701 create obstacles to the deployment of the Lebanese army in the south.”

Lebanon renewed its commitment to international resolutions and the implementation of arrangements for the cessation of hostilities, and confirmed that it had responded fully to international calls to calm the situation and was still showing the utmost levels of restraint and cooperation in order to avoid falling again into the hell of war. The Security Council called on, especially the countries sponsoring these arrangements, to take a firm stance. “We are clear about Israel’s violations and work to oblige it to respect its obligations under the Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities and relevant international resolutions,” according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lebanon called for strengthening support for UNIFIL forces and the Lebanese army to ensure the protection of its sovereignty and provide the security conditions that allow it to restore stability and return to normal life in its south.

Yesterday, Monday, Al-Akhbar newspaper reported that Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati summoned the five-member committee charged with following up on the ceasefire agreement to discuss violations by the Israeli army, and that he requested for the first time to meet with the committee “to confirm that the violations committed by the Israeli enemy in the south are causing embarrassment to the state.” The Lebanese government signed the American-brokered ceasefire resolution.

Informed sources reported that “Mikati will ask the American and French sides to pressure Israel to stop its violations because their continuation means the situation will explode at any moment and the truce will collapse.”

On November 27, a ceasefire was reached between the Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel, more than a year after they exchanged attacks on the border.

While the Israeli army continues to violate the ceasefire agreement, as it blew up and bulldozed a number of homes, orchards, and property in several villages and towns in southern Lebanon.
